“Hope you’re well. A very short note just to say thanks once again for the wonderful stay we had at your beautiful Shepherds Hut on the 9th/10th July, and also for the lovely, lovely soaps that you so kindly gave to me as we departed. The Hut itself was an absolute joy – decorated and filled so beautifully, comfortably and thoughtfully, and we had an amazing stay. The hot tub was also superb – I think Andy could happily have spent the whole two days in there! For me it was the peace and quiet and the view across the fields that I especially loved – being able to read a book in such beautiful surroundings and looking out at such a glorious setting was a treat indeed. We also had two fabulous meals at the Candlelight Inn, which I would recommend without hesitation to anyone and everyone. I know that we will be back to visit as soon as we possibly can.” ~ Sinead

“I just wanted to leave you a note with some thoughts on our recent getaway to the ‘Dimpsey Shepherds Hut’, Somerset…. In reviews of this sort the same superlatives are often used, but this truly was a unique getaway from the chaos of daily life. Down to the smallest detail, every element of our experience had been thought of. Freshly brewed tea and homemade cakes in the hut ready for us when we arrived; the log burner had been lit in advance to ensure the warmest of welcomes. My better half Lucy, who is more organised than the Swiss train system adored the fact ‘everything had its place’. Meanwhile I was able to extract the inner Bear Grylls in me by attempting to master the outdoor oven and the wood-fired hot tub. The manual labour was worth it as we laid back and surveyed the canopy of stars (see what I did there!?) above us.
The neighbours were great too…George the goose was a soothing but persistent alarm clock each morning in the pen next door, and Nigel (possibly named by ourselves) the lama tended to keep himself to himself. Our host Emma struck the perfect of being helpful and attentive without being overbearing, we were even offered a lift to the local, Candlelight Inn! And with 25 different gins on offer it was a very tempting proposition, however the walk ‘home’ down the lanes with the moon and stars as lighting is very much a lasting memory.
Lucy and I could have quite easily booked two nights at a mainstream hotel in a city. What The Dimpsey Shepherds Hut gave us was an experience. It’s uniqueness gave us memories that we will treasure for a long time. It wasn’t just the tea and cakes, or the satisfying sense of isolation, the intoxicating view out of the kitchen window in the morning, or George the Goose. It was a collection of all the little things. All the little things created a magical experience you will only find there; that will stand long in the memory. It’s impossible to put a price on that. We will be returning. That I can assure you.
Many thanks, D.”
“Emma made us most welcome on arrival and was there if we needed her during our stay. Thoughtful and approachable. For us an easy set up through the website and communication with Emma responding to our last minute request. We had a great time, went down to Lyme Regis on one day an easy scenic drive but we were itching to get back to the hut as the environment is so lovely, the hut is just a pleasure, got to get back there soon! Oh and good clean air with the hoot of owls at night under a starry sky, perfect!” ~ Finlay
“We had the most wonderful idyllic weekend at the Dimpsey Shepherd’s hut. Emma was an excellent host, greeting us even when we were late to arrive having baked us a cake and stocked the fridge with bacon and eggs ready for breakfast. Every detail has been thought about, with goodies to find in every corner such as boardgames for a rainy afternoon and waterproof bag with a thermos you can take on a picnic. Would highly recommend to friends for a romantic and quiet weekend out of London. Thank you Emma!” ~ Emma
“We were warmly welcomed by Emma on arrival and she showed us to the beautiful Shepherd’s hut and how everything worked. She had also left us tea and cake with a lovely vase of wild flowers which was a beautiful touch and wonderful supplies for our first breakfast. The Shepherd’s hut is absolutely stunning – beautifully and constructed, very spacious and the interior decoration has been thoughtfully chosen and carefully styled. The bed is incredibly comfortable, the bathroom is fantastic and every attention to detail was perfect. This is an excellent base to explore Somerset and Dorset but also a beautiful place to relax, unwind and listen to the sheep munching grass. We were lucky enough to have very clear nights with no cloud and had a wonderful view of the nights sky and twinkling stars. I could not recommend Emma and her beautiful Shepherd’s hut highly enough – a fantastic place to stay!” ~ Helen
“We loved our weekend in the hut. Great location – the views our stunning, so peaceful. Great accommodation – it’s beautiful every detail has been considered. Great host – Emma really looked after us even moving a noisy cow so we wouldn’t be desturbed (we didn’t even notice it). Highly recommended!” ~ Tom
“Amazing, secluded, beautiful – what a fabulous place. The location is stunning, the hut itself is just perfect and Emma was an equally wonderful host. We are already planning our return visit. Thank you Emma.” ~ Amanda
“What a lovely, lovely place to visit – nothing too much hassle and everything thought through. From every cooking utensils needed for the perfect breakfast (including bacon from the farm) to the luxurious bed linen and comfy mattress to ensure a restful sleep… this really was a treat. If you are looking for a relaxing retreat in the middle of nowhere with just the stars and countryside for company … This is a great bet. Enjoy!” ~ Susie
“We had a fantastic few days in the shepherds hut; despite it being December and really rather cold, the hut was cosy and warm. The wood burning stove is a real asset! The interior perfectly matched the beautiful view over the valley from Beetham Farm, an idyllic location. We were very comfortable in the hut with everything you need to be self sufficient and get a great nights sleep, the bathroom was particularly luxurious and we loved the carved granite sink, very functional in the compact space. Andrew and Emma are great hosts and make you feel very welcome.” ~ Sophie.
“Describing it as ‘Glamping’ doesn’t really do it justice! This is a 5* Shepherd’s Hut in a lovely location. The hut itself has all mod-cons including a power shower, hob, log burner and just about everything else you could want for a weekend (or longer). You can see that Emma has paid a lot of attention to the decoration and soft furnishings and the hut is cosy and stylish. Emma & Andrew were great hosts and really helpful before our arrival. We were able to order farm produce in advance and they had the fire pit all ready for our BBQ! Lots of little extras – the tea and cake was much appreciated after our journey. Great location, quiet, easy to find – the hut itself is a short distance from the farm house but doesn’t feel overlooked, lovely view of the surrounding farm land and animals (including the resident George the Goose who provided us with much entertainment). A good base to explore from – we went to Lyme Regis for the day which was only about 45 minutes drive away. A nice pub just over a hilly mile away by foot. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it, the whole stay was just about perfect.” ~ John.
“I’ve been lucky enough to stay at Dimpsey twice now- and both times the word I’d use to describe the stay would be magical.
I stayed in Dimpsey’s Hither Hut in January and again in February as I’m lucky enough to work with a couple of the businesses Emma (the co-owner) is involved with and I had meetings in her neck of the woods. The first time I stay in January on my own and I was just blown away.
I’ve watched Emma develop Dimpsey but nothing prepares you for the experience of when you open the door and see it all. The first thing that hits you is the amazing wave of calmness. And I know that sounds so weird but I honestly felt like all my stress sort of melted away as I stepped inside- it has something about it. Inside, the little log burner had been lit for me and the decor was stunning. Cosy, original, thoughtful, homely and oh so special. With secret cubby holes, handmade soap, and really useful things like chargers on hand, if took me about 10 seconds to settle in!
Another thing- the space. I’m 6ft tall and didn’t feel the least big cramped. Although the hut is a smaller space, the decor and design make it feel like a tardis. The first time I stayed on my own and the second time I shared- and both times it felt spacious and welcoming. And the shower room? It has a proper full size shower. This ticked a big box for me.
And the setting. Oh my. When you see the sunset in the morning through your hut window- it’s like a little bit of heaven. Especially if enjoyed with a cup of tea. The Blackdown Hills are beautiful, the farm has this incredible vibe, and the animals are lovely too. If you’re really lucky you’ll get Kitty’s VIP treatment- that cat is a legend.
I can not speak of Dimpsey highly enough. It really is luxury, warmth and calm in the most incredible way.” – Rhea
