ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS

How accessible is Dimpsey?
Please note that the Shepherd’s Hut has 4 steps leading up to the door and the nature of the accommodation means that it may not be fully wheelchair accessible – please call us for further details and we can talk through your access requirements. We allow Assistance Dogs as part of a booking, but please do talk to us first, we ask that you leave other doggy friends at home please.
If I want to arrange a surprise, can you help?
Oh yes, we love to help with surprises! You can add on flowers and balloons when you book or if there is anything else you would like us to arrange, we’re always happy to help. We’ve been a secret organiser of many special occasions, Dimpsey is perfect for special event breaks like birthdays, anniversaries and engagements.
Where is Dimpsey based?
We’re based near Combe St Nicholas on the Somerset/Devon border, about half a mile from the A303. We have the advantage of being down a beautiful country lane and easy to find. Our farm is around 30 acres, was listed in the Domesday book and is home to Dexter Cattle, Jacob sheep and Tamworth pigs – so lots of animals and tractors to see. Hither Hut is located in Hither Orchard, so named as it has been replanted on the same spot as the orchard which served the farm for hundreds of years previously. Yonder Hut is over two fields away in its own private copse and overlooks Castlemoor, where a veritable nature safari awaits you during your stay!
What happens after I have booked?
When you book you will get a confirmation email and a Dimpsey Shepherd Hut welcome pack which will tell you about what to bring, how to get here and places to visit.
Before you get here
Once we’ve received your deposit, we send out your Welcome Pack, which we advise that you read through and then book tables for popular eating places and advise us if you would like to purchase any food from the farm. The Pack also covers nitty-gritty things like maps and useful numbers plus the little extras that make your stay in the Dimpsey hut unique, relaxing and enjoyable.
Arrival and departure times
The hut will be ready and waiting for you to arrive any time after 2pm for the Hither Hut and 5pm for the Yonder Hut – late arrivals are not a problem for us – so if you need to complete a day’s work and then drive here, just let us know and we’ll make sure everything’s ready for your arrival time. We understand that there is nothing worse than rushing around when you have to leave early so you don’t have to leave your Dimpsey stay until 11am for Hither and 1pm for Yonder on the day of departure.
What do you need to bring?
Dimpsey is all about you-time, so the main thing is to leave your timetable and schedule at home and bring a willingness to step back and take things easy. The Welcome Pack will tell you all the things we have here and you can add your own personal choices to make it a really indulgent break!
What’s in the welcome pack?
The welcome pack will have everything you need to make sure that your get away and stay is as enjoyable as possible. It will include the nitty gritty things like maps and useful numbers to the little extras that make your stay in the Dimpsey hut unique, relaxing and enjoyable. If you’re coming to Dimpsey for a special occasion and need to arrange any secret surprises, just let us know and we’ll help you to make someone’s day very special. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact us.
What is there in the immediate area?
The nearest small towns are Chard and Ilminster, with Taunton (20 minutes) and Exeter (35 minutes) being the larger towns in the vicinity. The country lanes are perfect for walking and biking and the nearby Neroche woods offers access to a long walking, riding and cycle path. We’re about 30 minutes from Lyme Regis and the coastal paths if you fancy venturing out. In addition, this particular area of the Blackdown presents some stunning skies and opportunities for stargazing, the hot tub being a perfect place to view from.
Can I buy food from the farm?
Yes you can, when you book you can add a breakfast hamper, sausages, burgers, steak and eggs. The meat is all from our small farm and we use local produce and suppliers.
What about Dimpsey's sustainability?
The shepherd’s hut was made less than 10 minutes away from our farm by Blackdown Shepherd Huts, we try wherever possible to use local suppliers or vintage pieces. We provide recycling facilities and we also compost all of your food waste. We grow herbs and some veg outside the shepherd’s hut for your use and if you order meat from our farm, your food miles can be measured in feet!

“We had the most wonderful idyllic weekend at the Dimpsey Shepherd’s hut. Emma was an excellent host, greeting us even when we were late to arrive having baked us a cake and stocked the fridge with bacon and eggs ready for breakfast. Every detail has been thought about, with goodies to find in every corner such as boardgames for a rainy afternoon and waterproof bag with a thermos you can take on a picnic. Would highly recommend to friends for a romantic and quiet weekend out of London. Thank you Emma!”
