The Homecooked Dimpsey Pizza

We're real foodies here at Dimpsey and love cooking over wood, so we can provide pizza ingredients and extras as part of your break to cook here. However, we are also surrounded by amazing places to eat and love to share our recommendations with guests. You'll find some of them below.

The Candlelight Inn

We are lucky enough to be surrounded by great places to eat. A firm Dimpsey favourite is The Candlelight Inn. Mike & Simon have created an award winning eating experience with that all important friendly welcome. Dimpsey distance : 1 mile Drive Time: 5 mins Walk Time: 30 mins

The Cotley Inn

Another wonderful place to eat around the corner from us is The Cotley Inn who pride themselves with their local food. All their dishes are made with ingredients in a 25 mile radius, and the food is divine! Dimpsey distance : 4.8 miles Drive Time: 11 mins Walk Time: Around 2hrs

The Greyhound Inn

High Grange Devon

A tranquil oasis - head to High Grange for a five course Feast Night, a Fire School day or a wellbeing workshop. A gorgeous woodland setting with exquisite theatrical food from veteran chef Luke Vandore-Mackay. What they don’t grow on site will be bought locally and cooked in front of you. River Cottage

Pip's Railway Carriage

The Five Dials Inn

Lord Poulett Arms

An outstanding pub that is only a picturesque car journey away from Dimpsey, serving exquisite seasonal dishes all lovingly curated with locally sourced Somerset produce. It's the perfect pub for summer evenings with their sun-terrace but equally cosy on this chiller days with their beautifully styled country inspired interiors. Barleymows Farm Shop

Barleymow’s offer the finest cuts of meat and freshest fruit and veg and with friendly staff and a wide range of local produce. It is a great place to get your groceries and enjoy lunch in the restaurant. Dimpsey Distance: 3.1 miles

Bonners of Ilminster

An award-winning butchers, Bonners provides excellent quality produce with a vast number of meats and cuts available. Dimpsey Distance: 7 miles

Trading Post Farm Shop

Voted as the best Farm Shop in Somerset in 2019, the Trading Post Farm Shop is a definite must when picking up your local, organic groceries. Dimpsey Distance: 13.1 miles

Millers Farm Shop

The Millers family run farm shop grow their own produce as well as having local suppliers so that you can taste the local ciders, sample the cheeses and pick up your fruit and veg at the same time! Dimpsey Distance: 14.1 miles

The Organic Butchery

If you are lover of organic and sustainable meats, pies and pastries then The Organic Butchery is a firm favourite with us and with many others alike. Provided as a meat box delivery, you can have your fresh food delivered straight to you.

Big Brand Shops

Ilminster is a lovely market town, about ten minutes away and has a
lovely butchers and delicatessen, as well as a small Co-op and a large Tesco.

Chard is in the other direction and has a large Tesco, and smaller Sainsburys, Coop and Morrisons.

Crewkerne is about 15 minutes away and has a number of supermarkets, including Waitrose, as well as a delicatessen.

In the summer, the campsite just up the hill is open and has a small shop, and there is a Londis just a mile away in Combe St Nicholas, which is open until 7pm and from 8am-1pm on Sundays. The Londis also sells newspapers and bread.

What to See...

Forde Abbey

Forde Abbey is a privately owned former Cistercian monastery just a 20 minute drive from Dimpsey. At Forde Abbey you can enjoy the wonders of both the house with its 900 years of history and award-winning gardens set within 30 acres. Dimpsey Distance: 8 miles Drive Time: 20 mins

National Trust - Barrington

A wonderful 'fragment of old Somerset' Barrington Court is a local National Trust property that delivers on gorgeous garden rooms, avenues and orchards all of which are open for you to explore. Dimpsey Distance 10.3 miles Drive Time: 25 mins

National Trust - Montacute

Another wonderful National trust property we are lucky to have in Somerset. Montacute is a feast for the eyes with its Elizabethan Renaissance architecture and design not to mention the beautifully curated gardens and parkland. Dimpsey Distance: 17.5 miles Drive Time: Half an hour

Lyme Regis

Known as 'The Pearl of Dorset' Lyme Regis is a beautiful seaside town with an abundance of sights and excursions to keep you busy for the day. With multiple beaches, the South West Coastal Path and the chance to swim, fish or fossil hunt there is something for everyone. Dimpsey Distance: 20.4 miles Drive Time: 40 mins

Charmouth

Situated just across from Lyme Regis, Charmouth is a lovely unspoilt seaside town that we would recommend to those of you looking for a slightly quieter option to Lyme. Charmouth has an equally beautiful beach and boasts some lovely local pubs and shops to enjoy throughout your visit. Dimpsey Distance: 20.6 miles Drive Time: 35 mins

Burton Bradstock

Burton Bradstock is home to the beautiful Hive Beach - boasting magnificent coastlines and cliffs with miles of unspoilt beaches along the famous Jurassic Coast. If you head into the pretty village of Burton Bradstock itself you will be greeted with a slice of blissful Dorset life by the sea supported by the multiple pubs, tearooms, cafes and local shops. Dimpsey Distance: 30 miles Drive Time: 50 mins

What to Do...

Walk

We're located on an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty called the Blackdown Hills, so walking is a favourite guest activity. We have OS maps in the huts, flasks and picnics can be provided on request and then off you toddle, long walk or short, the choice is yours. Choose from a walk straight out of the gate, or drive across to the Jurassic Coast and stroll the South West Coast path finishing up with coffee and cakes, which are obligatory if you've just earnt them with your walk.

Bike

Straight out of our drive, you are onto a country lane with miles of lanes to bike around, with handy pub stops along the way. We have the 13 mile Herepath cycle path just a couple of miles away and lots of Strava records to break on the hills nearby.

Cricket St Thomas Golf Club

‘Great views, great prices, great golf’. This golf course was originally a 9 hole course designed by 5 times open champion J.H.Taylor in 1932 and this has since been extended to 18 holes in 1955. This fantastic golf course is kept under regular maintenance and is set in stunning woodland. Dimpsey Distance: 4.4 miles Drive Time: 20 mins

Drakes Farm Riding Centre

Drakes Farm Riding Centre offer professional horse riding lessons for all ages and abilities. With well mannered horses, quiet country lanes and stunning views Drakes Farm is the best place to learn how to ride or continue to learn in a BHS approved centre. Barrington Pottery

If you prefer to get creative and hands on, then you can treat yourself to a pottery lesson at Barrington Pottery. Why not combine with an afternoon at the Barrington National Trust site for a full day out! Dimpsey Distance: 11.1 miles Drive Time: 22 mins
