Our little gorgeous shepherd’s hut has been a place of romance and proposals for several visitors since it opened in 2015 and is described as a place of ‘magic’ by many who stay here. We have always wanted it to be an all-in experience helping busy people to get some quality time together and has been adored by our guests since 2015 when we first started. Being based in the Blackdown Hills in Somerset, which is shared with Dexter cows, Jacob and Zwartble sheep and a few chickens and a goose called George, we really are a country getaway for our wonderful guests.
The idea of the glamping experience is to chill out and reconnect with each other, and we have geared everything around making that happen – so from relaxing music to snuggly beds, hearing the owls hoot at night and watching the animals during the day, we’ve totally got intimate chill out covered for couples who want a chance to rekindle their romance.
We’ve had several proposals at the hut, including one last Valentine’s Day. I help plan romantic breaks for couples and for this one I sourced flowers and chocolates for the proposal. When his girlfriend accepted, they were keen to get a ring, so I found a jewellers in Exeter open on a Sunday, so they went there and chose their ring.
Another one was, again, a complete surprise for the girlfriend. I sourced local sparkling wine and chocolates and put the champagne in a vintage copper bucket in the Dimspey hut. The boyfriend proposed just after they got to the hut and she said yes, which I am always grateful for! They spent the rest of the weekend between the hut and the hot tub!
Guests come away from Dimpsey saying they feel rejuvenated, relaxed and reconnected. That’s our aim, we want to give people the chance to rediscover the purpose in their relationships.
The hut is designed and kitted out to feel like a luxury hotel, and we always go the extra mile to make it really comfortable, ensuring that all the styling is from British designers and adding in extra little treats to delight visitors.
The hut is 18 feet long and contains a double bed, seating, kitchen area and a bathroom with shower and flushing toilet. Visitors can stay for £125 per night for two adults and this includes logs for the woodburner and the firepit, use of the hot tub and garden oven, a welcome tea tray and eggs, bacon, butter, milk and bread for a hearty first morning breakfast. Romantic additions can be brought in to create that truly special occasion.
Whatever your plans for Valentines day, we look forward to being the setting of your special and romantic time.
