Dimpsey Designer Showcase – Alice Wood Design

Our favourite things are definitely in the Dimpsey hut and they become firm favourites with our guests too.

One key piece is the sheepskin which always grabs people’s attention. So to showcase this, meet Alice Wood who is responsible for this fabulous bit of luxury.

Our Story hides in the seams and whispers from the folds. Look close: from the fields to ‘ewe’ Welcome to the flock!

My workshop is based on our working farm in Holwell Dorset where the sound of sheep and the passing of a tractor is common.

My aim is uncomplicated from the initial production, designing stage through to creating products from beautiful sustainable sheepskin from known local origins, many from the South West UK and some being from our own farm in the heart of the Blackmore Vale, Dorset. We produce meat for a high end supermarket and the sheepskins are simply a by-product.

I take inspiration from working and walking on our beautiful farm and it’s ever changing seasons.

My favourite project is difficult to answer as I enjoy working with the unique qualities of natural sheepskin. However one lovely little find in a local second hand furniture store springs to mind – I get a buzz from looking beyond tired furniture (50’svcoffee table with two small tuck away tables – bench and stools) and set about up cycling into a look similar to a ewe with twin lambs hiding away.

Todays key demographic appeal to affluent people of all age groups, due to its luxurious quality and growing unique interior trend. Wool is nature’s miracle fibre, it can’t be beaten by any man made products. Excellent insulator and ventilator, meaning it will both keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

About the sheepskin

Carefully hand selected, predominantly Dorset sheepskins, fit for every top quality product. Only the best gets cut and stitched with dedication and love, bringing you top class craftsmanship direct to your door with a low carbon ‘hoof’ print – Simple but exceptional.

We farm Poll Dorset sheep near Sherborne in Dorset UK. We are now totaling over 400 pedigree breeding ewes and the Sherborne Flock itself has 52 years worth of experience. The flocks’ existence is due to Rob’s grandfather, Bunny Lenthall, who imported the very first Poll Dorset sheep from Australia back in the 1950’s. He played a major role in the establishment of the ‘Sherborne Flock’ and helped Rob’s parents with their first pedigree Dorset sheep, from his own renowned ‘Bradstock flock’ situated on the beautiful Dorset coast line at Burton Bradstock, as a wedding present!
